Palmas Sports Association
Associação Desportiva Palmas is the main football club in Tocantins, founded in 2000 in the state's planned capital. Dominating Tocantins football, the club brought the North region's name to the national divisions of the Brazilian Championship.
History
Founded in 2000 in Palmas, capital of one of Brazil's youngest states, AD Palmas was born to represent a city in full growth. From its early years, the club became the dominant force in the Tocantins Championship, accumulating consecutive state titles. Nilton Santos Stadium, known as Mirandão, became the temple of football in Palmas, hosting matches in Series C of the Brazilian Championship and the Copa do Brasil. The trajectory of AD Palmas reflects the development of Tocantins itself, a state created in 1988 that quickly built its own sports identity.
