Palmeira Football Club is a football club from Rio Grande do Norte founded on June 23, 1959, in Goianinha (RN). It competes in professional state football and is known as Verdão do Potengi.

History

Palmeira was founded on June 23, 1959, in Goianinha, Rio Grande do Norte. The name honors Palmeiras Sports Society from São Paulo, and the absence of the final 'S' would have been a typo in the statute registration. In 2010, the club was runner-up in the Second Division of the Potiguar Championship and secured promotion to the state elite. Its best campaign in the first division was fourth place in the Potiguar Championship of 2011. Palmeira was relegated in 2016 and, in 2018, regained prominence by winning the state Second Division, defeating Alecrim in the final. After another relegation, it returned to the elite by winning the Second Division in 2020. In 2021 the club fell again to the second division and also suffered the loss of 12 points for fielding a 15-year-old athlete. In 2026, the club announced a move to Senador Elói de Souza (RN), with the name Palmeira do Potengi, and competes in Series B of the Potiguar Championship.
