History

Palmeiras experienced a phase of great national strength in the second half of the 1960s, known as the Football Academy, with names such as Ademir da Guia and Djalma Santos. The team had already been champion of the Taça Brasil in 1960 and again dominated the national scene in 1967. That year, Brazilian football had two tournaments of national scope: the Taça Brasil, disputed in knockout format among state champions, and the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, disputed in a round-robin format and better known as Robertão. Palmeiras won both competitions. In 2010, the CBF officially recognized the Taça Brasil and the Robertão as Brazilian championships. Thus, the 1967 season came to count as two national titles in Palmeiras' gallery, and the team continued to accumulate achievements in the following decade.
