History
In the early 1970s, Palmeiras gathered a generation of great technical quality. The coach was Osvaldo Brandão, and the midfield was led by Ademir da Guia, the club's greatest idol. In 1972, the team won the Brazilian Championship, then called the National Club Championship, as well as the São Paulo State Championship. In 1973, it repeated the national achievement and became back-to-back Brazilian champions. This squad included Dudu, Leivinha and Luís Pereira, who later played for the Brazilian National Team at the 1974 World Cup. The back-to-back championship in 1972 and 1973 remains among the most remembered campaigns in Palmeiras' history.
