Palmeiras 1993-1994

Palmeiras in 1993 and 1994 was the team that ended a 16-year drought without titles and won two consecutive São Paulo State Championships and two Brazilian Championships. Coached by Vanderlei Luxemburgo and sponsored by Parmalat, it became one of the most remarkable squads of the 1990s in Brazilian football.

History

Palmeiras arrived at 1993 after 16 years without winning an important title, since the last one had been the São Paulo State Championship of 1976. The partnership with Parmalat, which began in 1992, allowed the signing of players such as Edmundo, Evair, Zinho, Mazinho and Roberto Carlos, and the technical command was given to Vanderlei Luxemburgo. In 1993, the team won the São Paulo State Championship over Corinthians, ending the long drought, and also lifted the Rio-São Paulo Tournament. In the same year it won the Brazilian Championship, with Vitória as runner-up. In 1994, the squad maintained its base and won again the São Paulo State Championship and the Brazilian Championship, the latter with Corinthians as runner-up. With this, Palmeiras became consecutive Brazilian champions. The attack formed by players such as Edmundo, Evair and Zinho, with the arrival of Rivaldo in 1994 and the presence of left-back Roberto Carlos, is remembered to this day by the fans as one of the strongest in the club's history.
