Palmeiras 2012

Palmeiras' 2012 squad won the Brazilian Cup undefeated, with the competition's best attack. It was a contradictory year: the national title came in the same year the club was relegated in the Brazilian Championship.

History

In 2012, Palmeiras had an undefeated campaign in the Brazilian Cup, scoring 23 goals and conceding 6, the tournament's best attack. The final was against Coritiba, which was losing the decision for the second consecutive year. In the second leg, held at Estádio Couto Pereira in Curitiba, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, with goals from Ayrton for Coritiba and Betinho for Palmeiras. The result secured the title for Verdão, who had the advantage from the first leg. The trophy gave the club a place in the 2013 Copa Libertadores. In the Brazilian Championship that year, however, Palmeiras was relegated to Series B, where it would become champion again in 2013.
