Palmeiras 2016
Palmeiras in 2016, under the command of Cuca, became Brazilian champions and ended a 22-year drought without a national title. The achievement was the club's ninth Brasileirão title.
History
After years of reconstruction and a period in Serie B, Palmeiras returned to the top of Brazilian football in 2016. The team, under Cuca's command, played their home matches at Allianz Parque, a stadium inaugurated in 2014, which became one of the strongest home grounds in the country. The squad featured Fernando Prass in goal, Yerry Mina and Vitor Hugo in defense, Moisés and Tchê Tchê in midfield, and an attack led by Dudu and young Gabriel Jesus, who transferred to Manchester City in early 2017. Palmeiras won the 2016 Brazilian Championship with 80 points and secured the trophy before the final round. It was the club's first national title since 1994 and the ninth in the competition's history.
