Palmeiras 2020-2022
Palmeiras from 2020 to 2022 was the team managed by Abel Ferreira that won two consecutive Copa Libertadores titles. The period also brought victories in the Copa do Brasil, Recopa Sudamericana, Campeonato Paulista and Campeonato Brasileiro.
History
Palmeiras was founded on August 26, 1914, in the capital of São Paulo, by Italian immigrants, with the name Palestra Itália. The club adopted its current name in 1942 and, since 2014, has played its home matches at Allianz Parque, a stadium built on the land of the former Palestra Itália. In 2020, still under the command of Vanderlei Luxemburgo, the team won the Campeonato Paulista. In October that year, Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira, who came from PAOK, took over the team and began the most victorious cycle in the club's modern phase. In the 2020 Copa Libertadores, disputed until January 2021, Palmeiras defeated Santos 1-0 at Maracanã, with a goal from Breno Lopes in extra time. Next, the team also won the 2020 Copa do Brasil, overcoming Grêmio in the final. In 2021, Palmeiras repeated the feat in the Libertadores by defeating Flamengo 2-1 in extra time, in Montevideo, with a decisive goal from Deyverson. Shortly after, the club was runner-up in the FIFA Club World Cup, defeated by Chelsea in extra time. In 2022, the team won the Recopa Sudamericana over Athletico Paranaense, the Campeonato Paulista and the Campeonato Brasileiro, closing one of the most consistent periods in the club's history.
