History
Paysandu Sport Club was founded in 1914, in Belém, Pará, and is one of the most traditional clubs in Northern Brazil. In 2001, the Pará team won the Brazilian Series B Championship title, returning to the elite of national football. In 2002, Paysandu won the Champions Cup, a tournament that brought together champions of regional and national competitions, and defeated Cruzeiro in the final. The conquest was the greatest achievement of northern football in national tournaments up to that time. The title guaranteed the club a place in the 2003 Copa Libertadores da América, Paysandu's first participation in the competition. The period was marked in the club's history as the phase of greatest national and international projection of Papão da Curuzu.
