History

Paysandu Sport Club was founded on February 2, 1914, in Belém, and established itself as one of the greatest forces in Northern Brazilian football. The club's name refers to the Uruguayan city of Paysandú, and the blue and white colors have accompanied the institution since its origin. The team's great classic is the Re-Pa, played against Clube do Remo, one of the most traditional matches in Brazilian football. The rivalry shaped the history of Pará football, and Paysandu accumulated many titles in the Campeonato Paraense over more than a century of existence. On the national stage, one of the landmarks is the Series B title of the Brazilian Championship in 1991, which brought the club to the elite of Brazilian football. In the early 2000s, Paysandu experienced a period of great prominence: it won the Copa dos Campeões in 2002 and, with that, secured a place in the Copa Libertadores 2003. The club hosts its most important matches at Mangueirão, a large-capacity stadium in Belém, and maintains Curuzu, its own stadium, as a symbol of Papão's identity. With a numerous and passionate fan base, Paysandu remains one of the main representatives of the North in national competitions.
