Sport Club Penedense
Founded on January 3, 1909, Sport Club Penedense is the oldest active football club in the state of Alagoas and one of the oldest in Brazil. Headquartered in the historic city of Penedo, on the banks of the São Francisco River, the club carries the sporting identity of the entire region.
History
Penedense was born in 1909, just a few years after the founding of Alagoano Foot Ball Club, becoming the second football club established in Alagoas and consolidating Penedo as one of the cradles of sport in the state. Over more than a century of existence, the club has remained a symbol of the city's identity, crossing generations of supporters who inherited their passion for the red-and-white riverside team. Alfredo Leahy, with a capacity of 6,000 people, is the club's historic home and the stage for regional rivalries that mobilize the entire city on match days. More than just a football match, Penedense's encounters became part of Penedo's social and cultural calendar. Despite the financial difficulties common to interior clubs in the Northeast, Penedense has endured and continues to compete in the divisions of the Campeonato Alagoano, keeping alive the tradition of being the oldest active football club in Alagoas.
