Pescara Calcio
Pescara Calcio is the club from the city of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region, founded in 1936. It was the first and only Abruzzese club to reach Serie A, and became famous for the offensive football of the team coached by Zdeněk Zeman around 2012.
History
Pescara was founded in 1936 and spent decades in the lower divisions of Italian football. The club became the first and to this day only representative from Abruzzo in Serie A, making its debut in the top flight in the second half of the 1970s. In total, Pescara played seven Serie A seasons: 1977–78, 1979–80, 1987–88, 1988–89, 1992–93, 2012–13, and 2016–17. The team's stadium, the Adriatico, was built for the 1960 Rome Olympics. In December 2008 the club faced a financial crisis and bankruptcy, but was saved weeks later by a group of local businessmen, who preserved the name, history, and colors. The most remembered period is the 2011–12 Serie B season, when Zeman's team, known as "Zemanlandia", won the title and promotion to Serie A with vertical and offensive football, scoring 90 goals in 42 matches. Marco Verratti, Ciro Immobile, and Lorenzo Insigne were part of that team. Zeman returned to the helm of the club in 2017, the year Pescara was relegated again.
