Portland, Oregon club with roots in the old NASL from the 1970s and a member of the MLS since 2011. Known for its passionate fanbase and the tradition of 'Timber Joey', who cuts a timber slice after each goal.

History

The Timbers were founded in 1975 as one of the original teams of the North American Soccer League (NASL), reaching the league final in their inaugural season. After the NASL ended in 1982, the brand survived in lower-tier leagues until resurfacing with force. In 2011, the club joined Major League Soccer (MLS) as an expansion team, quickly becoming one of the most traditional atmospheres in the league at Providence Park. The organized supporter group Timbers Army is recognized as one of the most fervent in North American soccer. The sporting peak in the MLS era came with the MLS Cup title in 2015, under manager Caleb Porter, and a second title in 2021. The club also disputed other MLS Cup finals and continental CONCACAF cups.
