History

Futebol Clube do Porto was founded on September 28, 1893 and, in 1987, wrote one of the most important pages of its history by winning the European Champions Cup, under the command of coach Artur Jorge. In the final, played in Vienna on May 27, 1987, Porto came from behind against Bayern Munich with a 2-1 victory. The German team opened the scoring with Kögl, and the turnaround came with a heel goal by Algerian Rabah Madjer and a goal by Juary, both in the final minutes. Porto also lifted the 1987 UEFA Super Cup, against Ajax, and the Intercontinental Cup, in Tokyo, when they defeated Peñarol 2-1 in extra time, with a goal by Celso. The generation of Madjer, Juary and young Paulo Futre opened the way for Porto's era of titles in the following decades and marked the club as a continental power.
