Pro Vercelli is one of the most successful clubs in early Italian football, with seven national titles between 1908 and 1922. Today it competes in Italy's lower divisions.

History

Founded in 1892 in the city of Vercelli, in Piedmont, Football Club Pro Vercelli dominated Italian football in the first two decades of the twentieth century. The club won the national championship in 1908, 1909, 1910-11, 1911-12, and 1912-13, forming one of the first dynasties of the sport in the country. After World War I, the team returned to the top with the titles of 1920-21 and 1921-22, reaching seven national conquests, a mark that only the great Italian clubs surpassed later. Several Pro Vercelli players formed the foundation of the Italian national team in its first international matches. From the 1930s onward, the club lost ground to teams from the major cities and fell to the lower divisions. Pro Vercelli plays its home matches at Silvio Piola Stadium, named after the greatest goalscorer in Serie A history, brought forth by the club.
