Quilmes Atlético Club
Quilmes Atlético Club is one of Argentina's oldest clubs, founded in 1887 in the city of Quilmes, in Greater Buenos Aires. Its greatest achievement was winning the 1978 Metropolitan Championship.
History
Founded in 1887 by members of the British community settled in the city of Quilmes, the club is considered one of the pioneers of Argentine football, having participated in the first decades of the sport's organization in the country. The nickname "El Cervecero" refers to the city's famous brewery, with which the club is historically identified. The peak of its trajectory came in 1978, when Quilmes won the Metropolitan Championship, its only Argentine First Division title in the professional era, under great celebration by its supporters. In the following decades, the club experienced the characteristic ups and downs between Argentina's First Division and second division, accumulating promotion titles and maintaining itself as a traditional institution in the country's football, with strong identity in the southern zone of Greater Buenos Aires.
