Racing Club
Racing Club is one of Argentina's most traditional clubs, founded in 1903 in Avellaneda. Known as 'La Academia', the club reached its peak in the 1960s, when it won the world title. Racing is the eternal rival of Independiente in the Avellaneda derby.
History
Racing Club experienced its golden era between 1966 and 1967, winning the Argentine Championship, the Copa Libertadores, and the Intercontinental Cup consecutively. It was the first Argentine club to win the Intercontinental Cup, defeating Celtic of Scotland. After decades of difficulties, the club became Argentine champions again in 2001 and remained competitive throughout the twenty-first century. The passionate fans and rivalry with Independiente make the Avellaneda derby one of the most intense in the country.
