The 2017–18 season began with titles for Zidane's Real Madrid: the Spanish Super Cup, won against Barcelona 5–1 on aggregate, and the UEFA Super Cup, where they defeated Manchester United 2–1 in Skopje. In December 2017, in Abu Dhabi, the team defeated Grêmio 1–0, with a free-kick goal by Cristiano Ronaldo, and won the FIFA Club World Cup. In La Liga, the team's performance was inconsistent and Real Madrid finished in third place, behind Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. In the Copa del Rey, the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Leganés. The priority focused on the Champions League, where the team eliminated PSG, Juventus, with a penalty by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 93rd minute of the second leg, and Bayern Munich in the semifinal. In the final, held on May 26, 2018 in Kyiv, Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 3–1, with goals by Benzema and two by Gareth Bale, one of them a bicycle kick. It was the club's 13th European title and the third consecutive one. Cristiano Ronaldo was the competition's top scorer with 15 goals. A few days later, Zidane stepped down as coach and in July, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juventus.
