History

Founded in 1926, Real Oviedo is the main club in the city of Oviedo, in Asturias, northern Spain. It experienced its golden years in the 1980s and 1990s, when it played several seasons in the Spanish first division. After falling to the lower divisions in the early 2000s, the club faced serious financial difficulties and was saved by a campaign of supporter members, including symbolic support from player Santi Cazorla, who is from Oviedo. In 2024, the club secured promotion to La Liga via the Segunda División playoffs, returning to the elite of Spanish football after 24 years of absence.
