FK Crvena zvezda, known internationally as Red Star Belgrade, is Serbia's largest club and one of the most famous in Eastern Europe. Founded in 1945, the club is the 1991 UEFA Champions League champion, the greatest title in Balkan football. The impressive Rajko Mitić Stadium, popularly called 'Maracanã', has a capacity of over 55,000 supporters.

History

Red Star Belgrade won the UEFA Champions League in 1991, defeating Olympique de Marseille on penalties in one of the most dramatic finals in the history of the competition. The club also won the Intercontinental Cup in the same year, becoming world champion. Dominant in Yugoslav and Serbian football, the club formed a legendary generation of players such as Dragan Džajić, Dejan Savićević and Sinisa Mihajlovic. The rivalry with Partizan Belgrade, known as the 'Eternal Derby', is one of the most intense in European football.
