History

Red Star was founded in Paris in 1897 by a group of young people led by Jules Rimet. Rimet presided over FIFA between 1921 and 1954 and was the creator of the World Cup. Later, the club established itself in Saint-Ouen, in the northern suburb of Paris, where it plays its home games at Stade Bauer. In the early decades of French football, Red Star was one of the main forces in the country. It won the French Cup in 1921, 1922, 1923, 1928, and 1942—five titles in France's oldest national competition. In the professional era, the club alternated between stints in the top division and lower divisions. It became known for its strong cultural identity linked to Saint-Ouen and its loyal supporters. In the 2023-24 season, Red Star was champion of the Championnat National, French football's third division, and returned to Ligue 2.
