History

Rio Ave Football Club was founded in 1939 in the city of Vila do Conde, in northern Portugal, becoming over the decades a stable club in Portuguese professional football. The club gained great prominence in the 2010s, when it disputed the final of the Portuguese Cup in 2014 and reached European competitions such as the Europa League, representing one of the greatest achievements in its history. With a solid foundation for developing young players, Rio Ave became known for revealing talents that later transferred to major European clubs, maintaining itself competitive in the Portuguese first division.
