Rio Branco Football Club

Rio Branco Football Club

Traditional club from South Minas Gerais football, founded by young people dissatisfied with the lack of opportunities at another club in the city. It is one of the main representatives of Andradas in the state scenario.

History

Rio Branco Football Club was born on June 13, 1948, in Andradas, by the initiative of a group of young people led by Sinésio Teodoro, Venício Almeida, Pedro Delavia, Sebastião Teodoro Rosa and Luiz de Almeida Lino. The motivation arose from the dissatisfaction of these players for training at Esporte Clube Andradense without the opportunity to play official matches. The first game in the club's history took place on the same day of its foundation, on the Vila Caldas field, land where the Municipal Stadium JK is now located. Under the referee Antônio Dechichi, Rio Branco defeated the team from the rural district of Gramínea 4 to 2. The club remained amateur for decades until turning professional in 1986, when it started to compete in the Campeonato Mineiro Second Division. From then on, it won two interior titles, in 1990 and 1992, consolidating itself as a regional force in Minas Gerais football. As a professional, Rio Branco competed in the Campeonato Brasileiro Series C in 1989, 1990, 1992, 1998 and 2003, in addition to playing Series B in 1991, marking its presence in national competitions organized by the CBF.
