Rio Branco Football Club

Rio Branco Football Club

Football club from Salvador, Bahia, recognized as one of the pioneers in the inclusion of black players in organized Brazilian football, at a time of strong racial discrimination in sports.

History

Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century in the Bahian capital, Rio Branco Football Club gained historical prominence for forming teams with black players when most of Bahia's elite clubs practiced informal racial selection. The club competed in the Bahian Championship for decades, being a reference for the democratization of football in the state. Throughout its trajectory, Rio Branco alternated participations between state divisions, maintaining historical relevance even without major recent state titles, being remembered mainly for its social and symbolic role in Bahian football. Currently, the club remains active in youth categories and amateur and semi-professional competitions in the state of Bahia, preserving its century-old tradition.
