History

Founded in 1932 in the city of Icó, in the central sertão of Ceará, Rio Branco Sport Club is one of the oldest and most traditional clubs in the Ceará interior. Throughout its history, the club alternated participation between the first and second divisions of the Ceará State Championship, being a reference for football practiced outside the Fortaleza metropolitan area. The club played its matches at José Firmo Stadium, site of several regional matches that mobilized the supporters of Icó and neighboring cities in the Jaguaribe Valley. Despite not having won significant state titles, Rio Branco remained one of the most consistent representatives of the interior in competitions organized by the Ceará Football Federation. Like many clubs in the interior of the Northeast, Rio Branco faced financial and structural difficulties over the decades, which limited its full professionalization, but the club remains as a sports symbol of its city.
