Ross County FC

Ross County FC

Founded in 1929 in the small town of Dingwall, in northern Scotland, Ross County FC is the northernmost professional club in Scottish football. Nicknamed 'Staggies' in reference to the stag on its crest, the club is the pride of the Scottish Highlands.

History

Ross County emerged from the merger of two local teams from the Highland Football League, Dingwall Victoria United and Dingwall Thistle, which united to compete in the regional league from 1929. In amateur competition, the club was champion in 1967, 1991, and 1992, establishing itself as a force in the Highlands before joining Scottish professional football. After being admitted to the Scottish Football League in 1994, the club gradually climbed the divisions, winning titles in the Third Division, Second Division, and the Scottish Championship, as well as three Challenge Cups. In 2010, it experienced its first major national moment by reaching the Scottish Cup Final. The pinnacle of recent history came in 2016, when Ross County won the Scottish League Cup by defeating Hibernian, with goals from Michael Gardyne and Alex Schalk, winning the club's only national trophy to date and proving that Highland football also has a place in Scottish elite.
