Sampdoria 1990-91
Sampdoria 1990-91 achieved the first and only Scudetto in the club's history, under the command of Vujadin Boškov. It was the team of the attacking duo formed by Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini.
History
Unione Calcio Sampdoria was born in 1946, from the merger between Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria, and always had Genoa as its base. During the presidency of Paolo Mantovani, the club assembled, in the second half of the 1980s, a squad that began to compete with the great teams of Italian football. Under the command of Yugoslav coach Vujadin Boškov, the team won the European Cup Winners' Cup 1989-90, defeating Anderlecht 2-0 in extra time, in Gothenburg, with two goals from Gianluca Vialli. In the following season, 1990-91, came the greatest achievement in the club's history: the Italian Championship, with Vialli as the competition's leading scorer. In addition to Vialli and Mancini, the team featured goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca, Brazilian midfielder Toninho Cerezo and Attilio Lombardo. In 1991, the club also won the Italian Super Cup. In 1992, Sampdoria reached the final of the European Cup and lost to Barcelona 1-0, with a goal from Ronald Koeman in extra time, at Wembley Stadium. Shortly after, Vialli moved to Juventus, ending the team's golden era.
