Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro
Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro is one of the five major clubs in Argentine football, founded in 1908 in the Almagro neighborhood in Buenos Aires. Known as 'El Ciclón', the club won its first Copa Libertadores in 2014. Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is a declared San Lorenzo supporter.
History
San Lorenzo has a rich history in Argentine football, with multiple national titles throughout the twentieth century. In 2014, the club reached the pinnacle of its continental history by winning the Copa Libertadores for the first time. The club experienced a unique event in football history: it was expropriated of its original stadium during the military dictatorship and fought for decades to recover the land. Legends such as Pontoni, Sanfilippo and Gringo Martínez defined the club's winning identity.
