History

Santiago Wanderers was founded on August 15, 1892, in Valparaíso, and is among the oldest clubs in Chilean football. Because of this longevity, it is called the Dean and has the port city as its main fan base. The club won the Chilean Championship in 1958, 1968, 1979, and 2001, titles that place it among the traditional clubs in the country outside the Santiago axis, dominated by Colo-Colo, Universidad de Chile, and Universidad Católica. The club's stadium bears the name of Elías Figueroa Brander, in honor of the defender born in Valparaíso who began his career at Wanderers and became one of the greatest defenders in South American football history. Wanderers maintains a strong regional identity and is a reference in Valparaíso football, with loyal fans even during periods of sporting difficulties.
