History

The Esporte Clube Santo André was founded in 1967, in the city of Santo André, in the ABC region of São Paulo. Known as Ramalhão, the club built its history alternating between divisions of the São Paulo Championship and national football. The pinnacle of the club's history came in 2004, when Santo André staged one of the biggest surprises in Brazilian football: winning the Copa do Brasil. In the final, they faced Flamengo and won the return leg 2-0 at Maracanã Stadium, lifting the trophy before one of the country's biggest clubs. The title guaranteed Ramalhão a place in the 2005 Libertadores Cup, the club's first international participation, and promotion to the Brazilian Championship Serie A, where it competed in the 2005 season. Since then, the club has remained a constant presence in São Paulo football, developing players and keeping alive the memory of the historic 2004 campaign.
