Santos FC 1935
Santos Football Club, founded in 1912 in the city of Santos (SP), won the 1935 Campeonato Paulista, the first state title in the club's history. The achievement marked the arrival of the Peixe to the top of São Paulo football.
History
Santos Football Club was founded on April 14, 1912, in the city of Santos, by Raimundo Marques, Mário Ferraz de Campos and Argemiro de Souza Júnior. Since 1916, the club has hosted its matches at Vila Belmiro, a stadium that became a symbol of its identity. In its first decades of existence, Santos competed in São Paulo football in a scenario where capital teams such as Corinthians, Palestra Itália and Paulistano gathered the largest fan bases and structures. Nevertheless, the club built a solid base of supporters on the São Paulo coast. The 1935 Campeonato Paulista title is considered the first major sporting milestone for Santos, as it placed the club at the top of São Paulo football for the first time in its history. This achievement strengthened the club's identity and paved the way for its most glorious phase, from the mid-1950s onwards, when Santos won various state and national titles, as well as the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cups of 1962 and 1963.
