Santos 1956
The 1956 Santos was the Paulista Championship winning team that witnessed Pelé's professional debut at just 15 years old. The season marked the beginning of the club's transformation into a national and worldwide powerhouse.
History
In 1956, Santos Futebol Clube won the Paulista Championship, repeating the title from 1955 and consolidating the foundation that would dominate Brazilian football in the following decade. The team played at Vila Belmiro and featured names such as Zito and Pepe, key players in midfield and attack. That year the club brought in Pelé, discovered in the youth categories and promoted to the professional squad while still an adolescent. The young striker's debut took place in September 1956, in a friendly match against Corinthians from Santo André, ending in a 7-1 victory for Santos with a goal from Pelé. The 1956 Paulista title is considered a bridge between the 1955 championship-winning team and the great campaigns from 1958 onwards, when Santos established itself as one of the most successful clubs in the world.
