Santos 1960
The 1960 Santos team was the Paulista state champion that year, with Pelé already established and a team that would soon dominate Brazilian and South American football. It was managed by Lula and played at Vila Belmiro.
History
Santos Football Club was founded on April 14, 1912, in the city of Santos. After winning the 1955 Paulista Championship, the title that ended a long wait since 1935, the club built a historic generation that began to include Pelé from 1956 onwards. In 1958, Santos won the Paulista championship with an overwhelming offensive campaign, and in 1960, it repeated the state title, confirming the strength of the team managed by Lula. Players such as Pelé, Zito, Pepe, Coutinho, and Dorval were part of the squad that consolidated the club's offensive identity. This foundation was the starting point for the most victorious phase in Santos' history: the club won the Taça Brasil from 1961 to 1965 and the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup in 1962 and 1963. The year 1960 is therefore remembered as the consolidation stage of the Santos team that would become known as Pelé's team.
