History
Santos went through a period of sports reconstruction between 2006 and 2007 under the leadership of Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who returned to the club to build a competitive team at Vila Belmiro. The result was consecutive Paulista Championship titles: the 2006 title was the club's 17th and the 2007 title was the 18th, won for the second consecutive year. In 2007, the team also reached the Copa Libertadores semifinals, when they were eliminated by Grêmio in matches marked by intensity. Among the notable names from that squad were Fábio Costa, Kléber Pereira, Maldonado, Cléber Santana, Marcos Aurélio and Jonas. Marcos Aurélio was Santos' top scorer in the 2007 season, with 17 goals across all competitions, while Kléber Pereira scored 16 goals in the Brazilian Championship.
