O Santos foi rebaixado pela primeira vez na história em dezembro de 2023, ao terminar o Brasileirão na 17ª colocação. O clube voltou à Série A em 2025, após disputar a Série B em 2024.
Santos 2023
Santos' 2023 season was marked as the team that suffered the first relegation in the club's history in the Brazilian Championship. The drop ended an uninterrupted spell in the top division that began in 1971.
History
Santos Futebol Clube, founded on April 14, 1912, arrived at 2023 as one of the country's most traditional clubs, two-time World Champion and Copa Libertadores champion. It had never competed in the second national division, but was going through a phase of sporting and administrative instability. The 2023 season was irregular, with changes in technical management and difficulty in maintaining a sequence of good results in the Brazilian Championship. The team finished the championship in 17th place, within the relegation zone. The relegation was confirmed in the final round, in December 2023, after a 2-1 defeat to Fortaleza at Vila Belmiro. It was the first time in its 111 years of history that the club dropped to Serie B. In 2024, Santos competed in Serie B and achieved promotion, returning to the first division in 2025.
