São Cristóvão de Futebol e Regatas

São Cristóvão de Futebol e Regatas

Founded in 1898 in the São Cristóvão neighborhood (RJ), it is one of the oldest clubs in Brazil. Pioneer of Rio football and state champion in the first decades of the 20th century, the Little Rooster is a historical heritage of national sport.

History

Founded on October 2, 1898, São Cristóvão emerged a few years after football arrived in Brazil, becoming one of the country's pioneering clubs. Located in the traditional neighborhood of the same name in Rio de Janeiro's North Zone, it was one of the dominant forces in Fluminense football during the first decades of the 20th century. The club won the Carioca Championship on multiple occasions between 1910 and 1920, rivaling Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco in a golden era of Rio football. Its green and yellow colors anticipate those of the Brazilian National Team, creating a symbolic bond with Brazilian football. Although it has lost prominence in recent decades, São Cristóvão remains active and preserves over 125 years of history. It is one of the living remnants of the pioneering generation of Brazilian football, carrying with it the memory of the origins of the sport in the country.
