History
The São Francisco Football Club was founded in 1962 in Santarém, a city in western Pará located at the confluence of the Tapajós and Amazon rivers, and was born from the organization of local amateur football around neighborhoods and squares in the city. Known as the Lion of the Square, the club consolidated itself as one of the main representatives of the interior of Pará, competing in the Pará State Championship against clubs from the capital, Belém, which historically dominate the competition with Remo and Paysandu. São Francisco plays at Colosso do Tapajós Stadium, in Santarém, a venue that also hosted matches of other regional and national competitions involving clubs from western Pará. The club's trajectory reflects the difficulty faced by teams from the interior of the Amazon in sustaining professional structures, with long river and air displacements and reduced budgets compared to clubs from the capital.
