History
São Paulo Football Club was founded on January 25, 1930 and has Morumbi as its home. At the turn of the 1970s to the 1980s, the club was living a victorious phase after the Brazilian title of 1977, the first in its history in the national tournament. In 1980, the team won the Paulista Championship. The following year it repeated the feat and secured the back-to-back Paulista title in 1980 and 1981, establishing itself as one of the main forces in São Paulo football of that era. Goalkeeper Waldir Peres, the club's starting goalkeeper during that period, was one of the team's standout players. In the 1981 Brazilian Championship, São Paulo advanced to the final against Grêmio. The first match, in Porto Alegre, ended with a 1-0 victory for Grêmio, and the second, at Morumbi, ended in a 0-0 draw. The result gave the title to Grêmio and left São Paulo as runner-up in the national championship. The period 1980-1981 is remembered as that of a competitive team on all fronts, winner of two consecutive state championships and finalist of the Brazilian Championship.
