The 1985 São Paulo team became known as 'Menudos of Morumbi' because of the young talents revealed by the club. Coached by Cilinho, the team won the São Paulo State Championship in 1985.

History

In 1985, coach Cilinho assembled at São Paulo a team that brought together experienced players and young talents from the club's youth categories. The young players Müller, Silas and Sidney gained the nickname 'Menudos of Morumbi', in reference to the Puerto Rican musical group Menudo, which was very popular at the time. The team also had striker Careca, midfielder Paulo Roberto Falcão, who joined the club in 1985, defender Oscar and Uruguayan Darío Pereyra. With an attacking style of play, São Paulo won the 1985 São Paulo State Championship by defeating Portuguesa in the final. The squad formed that year became the starting point for winning the 1986 Brazilian Championship. For this reason, the generation of the Menudos is remembered as one of the most important in the club's history.
