History
São Paulo's winning cycle in the Série A began in 2006, under the command of Muricy Ramalho, and extended until 2008, when the club became the first to win three consecutive titles in the points-based format adopted in 2003. In 2008 the team scored 75 points in 38 rounds and finished ahead of Grêmio, the runner-up. The team's foundation consisted of goalkeeper and captain Rogério Ceni, defender Miranda, midfielder Hernanes and striker Borges, as well as Aloísio and Dagoberto in the offensive sector. The team's strength lay in defensive consistency and performance at home, at Morumbi. Rogério Ceni, in addition to defending, continued scoring free kicks and penalties, establishing himself as the most prolific goalkeeper in football history. The 2008 title was São Paulo's sixth Brazilian Championship and ended the club's most dominant period in the 21st century. Muricy Ramalho left the club in 2009, closing the cycle.
