History

In 2012, São Paulo competed in the Copa Sudamericana under the command of coach Ney Franco and advanced to the final, facing Tigre, from Argentina. The second leg of the final was played at Morumbi and ended in the first half after a commotion involving the Argentine players. Since Tigre did not return to the pitch, Conmebol declared São Paulo champion. The trophy was Tricolor's first in the Copa Sudamericana and ended a drought of international titles that began after winning the 2005 Intercontinental Cup. Rogério Ceni, Lucas Moura and Luís Fabiano were among the most renowned names in the squad.
