São Paulo da Floresta
São Paulo da Floresta was a club founded on January 25, 1930 in the capital of São Paulo. It was born from the union of Club Athletico Paulistano's football with Associação Athletica das Palmeiras. It won the São Paulo State Championship in 1931 and gave rise to the current São Paulo Football Club.
History
São Paulo da Floresta emerged on January 25, 1930, during a period of crisis in São Paulo football. Paulistano had abandoned football due to opposition to professionalization, and its athletes and directors joined Associação Athletica das Palmeiras to create a new club. The team played its matches at Floresta field, which belonged to A.A. das Palmeiras and was located on the banks of the Tietê River. The stadium's name became incorporated into the club's nickname. The white, red and black colors, which formed the tricolor, united the traditions of the two founding associations. The biggest name on the roster was Arthur Friedenreich, an idol from Paulistano. With him, São Paulo da Floresta won the 1931 São Paulo State Championship and established itself among the main forces in the state in its early years. In 1935, the board approved the merger with Clube de Regatas Tietê, which ended the football department. Members and fans who did not accept the club's end reorganized it, and it re-emerged in December 1935 as São Paulo Football Club. That is why São Paulo FC considers 1930 the year of its founding and counts the 1931 state championship in its history.
