US Sassuolo Calcio

Sassuolo is an Italian club founded in 1920 in Emilia-Romagna that experienced its period of greatest prestige in the Italian Serie A between 2013 and 2023. Backed by the Mapei group, it became a reference in modern management and talent development, with participations in the Europa League.

History

Founded in 1920, Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio spent decades in the lower divisions of Italian football until it was acquired by the Mapei group, a global giant in building materials, in the early 2000s. The investment radically transformed the club and its sports project. The golden era began in 2013, when Sassuolo achieved promotion to Serie A for the first time in its history, under the technical command of Eusebio Di Francesco. The team played attractive and offensive football, becoming one of the most admired clubs in the Italian elite and participating in European competitions. During its time in Serie A, the club revealed and sold talents such as Manuel Locatelli — signed by Juventus and later by Arsenal —, Domenico Berardi, its greatest historical idol, as well as Kevin-Prince Boateng, Filip Djuricic and other players who stood out in European football. After ten consecutive seasons in Serie A, Sassuolo was relegated in 2024, ending a remarkable cycle that placed it on the map of European football as a model of financial sustainability and player development.
