Sport Club Marítimo is the most traditional club on the island of Madeira and one of the historic clubs in the Portuguese First League. Founded in 1910 in Funchal, it has represented Madeiran football in the national and European scene for over a century.

Founded in 1910 in the city of Funchal, on the island of Madeira, Sport Club Marítimo is one of the oldest and most traditional clubs in Portugal. Throughout more than a century of history, the club has established itself as a permanent presence in the Portuguese First League and as an ambassador of Madeiran football. Marítimo competed in European competitions on several occasions, representing Portugal in the UEFA Europa League and other continental competitions. The club is recognized for its ability to develop talents who went on to major European clubs. Barreiros Stadium, located in the heart of Funchal, is one of the most picturesque stadiums in Portuguese football, with a capacity of approximately 10,000 supporters. The rivalry with Club Sports e Recreio Agrícola Nacional da Madeira (Nacional) is known as the Madeira Derby, one of Portugal's most intense regional derbies. The club has produced notable players who represented Portugal and other national teams, establishing Madeira as a talent pool of Lusitanian football.
