History

Founded on March 25, 1908, Clube Sportivo Sergipe was born in Aracaju as one of the first football clubs in northeastern Brazil. Since its creation, the club established a hegemony in Sergipe football that has lasted for decades, accumulating dozens of state titles. In the first decades of the twentieth century, Sergipe dominated the Sergipe State Championship almost uninterruptedly, consolidating its fan base in the capital and in the interior of the state. The Lourival Batista Stadium, known as Batistão, became the main stage of Sergipe football and the home of the Azulão. Throughout the twentieth century, the club participated in several editions of the Copa do Brasil and the Brazilian Championship in the lower divisions, representing Sergipe football at the national level. The rivalry with Confiança is one of the most passionate classics in northeastern football. In the twenty-first century, Sergipe sought to remain relevant in the national scene, investing in youth categories and in the development of young talent. Despite the financial difficulties common to football in the interior of the country, the club maintains its tradition as the most successful in the state.
