Shanghai Port FC
Shanghai Port FC, founded in 2005 and previously known as Shanghai SIPG, is one of the most successful clubs in the Chinese Super League over the last two decades, with strong investment from the Shanghai Port Authority.
History
The club was founded in 2005 as Shanghai East Asia, changing its name to Shanghai SIPG in 2014 after acquisition by Shanghai International Port Group, and later to Shanghai Port FC in 2021. With strong investment, the club hired renowned coaches, including Sven-Göran Eriksson and André Villas-Boas, as well as prominent foreign players such as Hulk and Oscar during the 2010s. The team won its first Chinese Super League title in 2018, ending a long period of Guangzhou Evergrande's hegemony, and became champion again in 2023 and 2024, establishing itself as one of the main forces in Chinese football. The club plays its matches at Pudong Football Stadium, a modern stadium in the eastern region of Shanghai.
