Sivasspor
Football club from the city of Sivas, in central Turkey, founded in 1967 by the merger of three local amateur associations. It is one of the most successful Turkish clubs outside the major centers of Istanbul and Ankara, with prominence in the national scene in the 2000s.
History
Sivasspor was born on May 9, 1967, from the merger of three amateur clubs in the city of Sivas: Sivas Gençlik, Yolspor, and Kızılırmak. The club's roots trace back to 1932, when Sivas Gençlik was founded, initiating the region's football tradition. After decades competing in Turkey's lower divisions, Sivasspor achieved access to the Süper Lig for the first time in 2005 by winning the national second division, establishing itself as a competitive force outside the country's major urban centers. The club's main title came in the 2021-22 season, when Sivasspor won the Turkish Cup by defeating Kayserispor 3-2 in the final, the greatest triumph in the team's history. Currently, Sivasspor plays its home matches at Yeni 4 Eylül Stadyumu, opened in 2016 with a capacity of approximately 27,532 fans, and is known by its supporters as Demir Çelik (Iron and Steel), in reference to the traditional steel industry of the city of Sivas.
