Stade Malherbe Caen is a French club from Normandy, founded on November 17, 1913. Two-time champion of the French second division, it was finalist of the League Cup in 2004-05 and today has as its majority shareholder a company linked to Kylian Mbappé.

History

Stade Malherbe Caen was born on November 17, 1913, from the merger of Club Malherbe Caennais and Club Sportif Caennais. The club's colors and uniform preserve this dual origin: the black and white vertical stripes of Malherbe Caennais combine with the blue and red of Club Sportif Caennais. In the first decades, the club built its trajectory in regional competitions, winning titles in Lower Normandy and Normandy. Later, it won the French third division in 1975 and 1980, in the West group. The main national titles came in the second division, won in the 1995-96 and 2009-10 seasons. In 2004-05, Caen reached the final of the French League Cup, but was defeated. The club also played in the finals of the Gambardella Cup in 1959, 1994, 2001 and 2022. The team left the old Stade de Venoix, now used by the reserve team, and began playing its home matches at Stade Michel d'Ornano. Relegated from Ligue 2 in 2024-25, Caen began competing in the Championnat National. In the 2025-26 season, it finished in 8th place among 17 clubs. Control belongs to Coalition Capital, a subsidiary of Mbappé's company, with 80%, and to PAC-Invest, with 20%.
