History

Founded in 1936 in the city of Sousa, in the backlands of Paraíba, Esporte Clube de Sousa is one of the main representatives of football in the interior of the Northeast. The city that hosts it is internationally recognized for dinosaur footprint fossils found on the banks of the Fish River, dated to approximately 130 million years ago. The club regularly competes in the Paraíba Championship, facing traditional rivals such as Treze, Botafogo-PB and Campinense in disputes for the state title. Marizão Stadium, the club's home, is the stage for great emotions for Sousa fans. In national competitions, Sousa EC participated in several editions of the Copa do Nordeste and Serie D of the Brazilian Championship, representing with dignity the football of the Upper Sertão of Paraíba. The club is a symbol of resistance and cultural identity of a region that deeply values football as a popular manifestation.
