Sport Club Americano was a club from Porto Alegre founded in 1912 and dissolved in 1941. Its greatest achievement was winning the Gaucho Championship in 1928.

History

The club was founded on July 4, 1912 as Sport Club Hispano-Americano and adopted the name Sport Club Americano in 1913. Among its founders were Jacinto Losano and Napoleão Salatino. In 1914, it left the Liga de Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense and helped create the Associação de Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, alongside Grêmio, Frisch Auf and Fussball Porto Alegre. In 1918, it participated in the founding of the Federação Porto Alegrense de Foot-Ball. The land for its field was acquired in 1925, and Campo da Rua Larga was inaugurated on April 25, 1926, with a 3-0 defeat to Internacional. In 1928, came the best moment for the team: the Gaucho Championship title. In 1934, it merged with the Federação dos Estudantes Universitários de Porto Alegre and became known as Americano-Universitário. Severe financial crises led to bankruptcy and the club's dissolution in 1941, following a failed merger attempt with Foot-Ball Club Porto Alegre.
